Description of the institution
About 8,000 objects that characterize different periods of the region's life are collected in the museum's collections.
Before the full-scale invasion, three permanent exhibitions were presented in the museum: the ethnography of the native land tells about the life and daily life of the inhabitants of the Balaklia settlement in the mid-17th-20th centuries; the history of the Balakli region during the Second World War; "Oksana Petrusenko - an outstanding Ukrainian singer" - the exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of the famous Ukrainian opera singer of the beginning of the 20th century. Oksana Andriivna was born in Balaklia in 1900. The museum's collection includes portraits and sculptures of the singer, personal items, and photographs.
Interesting Facts
The museum is located in the oldest building in the city, which was built in 1817 for the headquarters of the Serpukhov Regiment. The only exhibition in Ukraine dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Ukrainian singer Oksana Petrusenko is presented here. An old and sad, and maybe romantic legend is connected with this house. She tells about the fact that Colonel Stepanov of the Novo-Sepukhiv Regiment, for whom this house was built in 1817-1818, had a beautiful daughter. She, having fallen in love with a poor soldier, decided to connect her life with him. But the father was against it and made a cruel decision to separate the lovers forever. He walled his daughter in the walls of the house. From the time when night falls, a magical melody sounds in the house, and a sad girl's song is heard.
Destruction
During the hostilities, the building was damaged, it does not have a single surviving window, due to a direct hit to the roof, the roof was damaged, the heating system was destroyed. There is damage to the facade. Also, during the occupation of the city, the occupiers lived in the museum.
