Description of the institution

The Kharkiv City Council and other central municipal authorities are located on the Constitution Square, the central square of Kharkiv, which was created at the same time as the founding of the city. Almost every building on the square is a monument of history and architecture. Constitution Square is a landmark place for Kharkiv residents. This is the real heart of the city, from which the main arteries of Kharkiv diverge, as well as a place of political and cultural gatherings. It was here in 2014 during the Revolution of Dignity that the Kharkiv Euromaidan took place.

The first building, which was located on the site of the Kharkiv City Council, was built in 1885 according to the project of the architect Mikhalivskyi for the City Duma, but it was much smaller, and instead of the current tower there was a two-story building that belonged to the merchant Baranov, bequeathed to the city and destroyed in the 1920s years

The city council building got a look close to the modern one in 1932 after reconstruction by architects Trotsenko and Pushkarev. During the Second World War, the central part of the building was completely destroyed, so the reconstruction of 1947-1950 is, in fact, a new building, which was given a modern look by architects Peta, Chebotareva, Kostenko and engineer Kharlamov.
