Description of the facility
The theater opened in Kharkiv on July 1, 1939. The theater presents a diverse children's and adult repertoire - a total of 25 productions, including the most powerful evening repertoire among puppet theaters of Ukraine. The theater has always successfully performed at festivals of puppet theaters, both within the country and abroad. The Kharkiv State Academic Puppet Theater named after Viktor Afanasyev operates in a building that is an architectural monument and has long become one of the city's hallmarks. The building was created according to the project of the architect Oleksiy Beketov in 1907, and in 1968 it was reconstructed specifically for a puppet theater.
Interesting fact
In the interiors of the theater there is a permanent exhibition of the only theater puppet museum in Ukraine. The collection, which began to be collected since 1954, features rarities from many countries of the world.
Destruction
On March 1, 2022, the theater building was partially damaged by shelling of the central part of Kharkiv by russian troops, the windows and facade were damaged.
