Description of the institution

The museum, which was opened in 1972, is located in the village of Skovorodynivka, Kharkiv region, on the estate of the XVIII century, where he worked for the last years of his life and where Hryhoriy Skovoroda was buried. As the philosopher commanded, there is no cross at the place of his burial - only a stone with the inscription: "The world caught me and did not catch me."

The most interesting in the collection

Museum is located in the house of landowners, built in the 18th century as a garden pavilion. The first two halls of the museum are dedicated to Skovoroda's biography and works, and the third hall is dedicated to the philosopher. The memorial room ("quiet cell"), where Hryhoriy Skovoroda lived and died, is also open to visitors. The exposition of the museum includes publications of Skovoroda's works, literature about him, books of ancient, medieval and modern philosophers and poets studied by Skovoroda, ethnographic objects, paintings and graphic works related to Skovoroda. The exhibition also includes some personal belongings of Skovoroda. The adjacent ancient park is also of historical significance, the planning of which has hardly changed since the time of Skovoroda. A well has been preserved in the park, the place of the philosopher's first burial (in 2006 a memorial plaque of the Honored Sculptor of Ukraine Seyfaddin Gurbanov was erected), his grave, a monument to Ivan Kavaleridze, a sculptural "philosophical alley".

Reaction

In 2022, according to UNESCO, the world will celebrate the 300th anniversary of Hryhoriy Skovoroda. In this regard, the museum was restored, large-scale events were planned. The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The destruction of the Skovoroda Museum caused mass outrage on social networks. Ukrainians call for Russia's exclusion from UNESCO, a UN cultural heritage organization.

"I have no doubt that the Russians beat Skovoroda's museum on purpose. He himself once said: "Do not fraternize with those who hide evil." This is evidence that this is probably a deliberate ideological action. They called Skovoroda almost the first Russian philosopher. This is practically a conscious hit on what Putin is fighting against - against the Ukrainian identity, "commented Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko.

What will the money be used for?

The amount of UAH 112 million includes the complete reconstruction of the building. We will also spend UAH 7 million from these funds on conducting scientific and design works that will determine the full scope of work necessary to restore the building.
