Description of the institution

The fund collection of the museum is one of the largest in Ukraine. Museum collections are constantly replenished and number about 400 thousand museum objects. This allows you to update and improve the main exhibition, as well as annually create a variety of exhibitions. The memorial has become a leading research, methodological and educational center on the military history of Ukraine. About 30 million visitors from many countries on all continents got acquainted with its expositions.

The memorial complex covers an area of ​​over 11 hectares. It includes: the museum with the monument "Motherland", the main square with the Alley of Hero Cities and sculptural compositions "Forcing the Dnieper" and "Transfer of Weapons", the gallery of heroes of the front and rear with bronze high-relief compositions, bowl "Fire of Glory", exhibition military equipment and weapons, a separate building, where the exposition "On other people's wars" is deployed, Li-2 aircraft and MiG-23 and Mi-24V helicopters are open for tourists.

The main exposition building of the museum is a three-storey building with an area in front of it, which can accommodate up to 30 thousand people. The museum building is also a pedestal for the Motherland monument made of stainless steel sheet facing the Dnieper.

The most interesting in the collection

The exposition space of the museum tells about the Ukrainian dimension of the Second World War. Covers 16 halls located on three floors. The presented materials reveal the themes of hostilities, strategies of survival in the conditions of war and post-war, genocides and sociocides, the struggle for independence between the two totalitarian regimes, demographic transfers, historical memory of the Second World War.

All these phenomena are shown through the prism of artifacts from the museum collection. The unifying art and relic image of the "Road of War", a number of art installations and multimedia encourage reflection, reflection, and own conclusions.

Problem

Due to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the museum is closed to visitors. Currently, the museum has an urgent need to pay for utilities for electricity, water and sewerage. Your contribution will help them to resume their work as soon as possible after our victory and to receive visitors again, telling the most important stories and continuing to restore the historical memory of Ukrainian society about the events of World War II.
