Description of the establishment
The history of the idea of creating a People's House in Okhtyrka dates back to the early nineties of the 19th century, when the society faced the question of building its own People's House, where it would be possible to implement educational knowledge. The People's House was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the abolition of serfdom.
The house was built in 1914 as the People's House. Already in 1922, an amateur drama group was created here, whose activities have been preserved to this day. Prominent Ukrainian actors Nataliya Uzhviy and Amvrosii Buchma performed on the stage of the institution, and in the 40s of the last century, the world-famous Ukrainian writer and fighter against the Soviet regime, Ivan Bagryaniy, wrote and worked here. In honor of the 105th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Bagryany, his bas-relief was installed on the facade of the building.
